Back to work

We've put our holiday on hiatus for a bit and gone back to Coffs Harbour to work for a month.
We've booked flights to go over to Bali with Boris and the Belgian girls and have a month to blow until that, so we're gonna make some extra cash in the meantime. The hospital has put us up in a holiday apartment so it's a pretty good deal.

While we're not doing anything here's some pictures of the life under Urangan pier (I managed to go out on a good day and get some good photos,

Here's a sick looking Jewfish. It had obviously been hooked and was pretty traumatised. You can tell it's a Jewfish because of the Jewel pattern on it's side.

This is a Gobie (Not sure which type). These are by far my favourite fish, they are always watching you from holes in rocks or from the sand and have a lot of personality.

Here's the same fish from the side. If you enlarge this photo you can see it's eyebrows.

And one more just because they are hilarious

Here's a baby stonefish. They are all over the place under the pier and apparently they have an excruciating sting if you accidentally hit one. This one was pretty obvious but some of them are nearly invisible, the older ones even have bits of algae growing off them.

We also went to the worlds biggest pub crawl attempt at Maryborough. We went to this last year and it was excellent. It was a bit tamer this year because it was raining but it was a pretty good. We all went as tigers (The theme was Orange).

Here's some people we met from RockHampton, we're gonna meet up with them when we go through there if they remember us. The PackMan theme was pretty cool.
There were also some people dressed as the No Gary No guys on the quit smoking Ad yelling at people smoking which was a pretty good idea.
Also I caught a really big Barramundi. That is all.

Fraser Island

We headed over to Fraser island on Monday for a three night stay at one of the resorts on the island (Kingfisher Bay Resort).
It was nice to do the holiday thing for a while and not worry about imminent engine trouble.
The Ferry got in at 10:30 in the morning and we spent the first day sitting in the jacuzzi and bumming around in our room which was pretty schmick. We definitely deserved the break after holidaying for the past two months.
Here's the pool in the morning

In the arvo we went down to the beach where I had a crack at snorkelling around the pier (which was rubbish), It's looking like all of QLD is murky, sandy and shallow water. When I got out there were thousands of soldier crabs on the mud. The one's around Hervey bay are all super cautious because of people's dogs, but the ones here weren't overly phased by your presence, so we got some good photos.

The next day we hired a 4WD and headed out to see fraser island. We probably could have gone with a tour group for the same price, but this way was heaps more fun.
Because it was a rental car we could drive pretty recklessly through the sand tracks. That was probably the best part.
We saw all the major attractions on the island in the one day; There was a lot of hype for some of the attractions which I guess you'd expect from such a tourism centre, but there were some really nice spots as well. The good spots were the indian head lookout (Although you weren't allowed onto it anymore), Lake Mckenzie (A filtered clear water lake) and Eli Creek, (Another clear creek from the filtered water off the sand), you could walk up Eli creek along a boardwalk, and then let the current take you back down to the beach.

Before we left for the island we tried to beat the local burger place's burger challenge. If you eat their belly buster burger in less than 15 minutes you get your photo on the wall of fame and get $100.

The Burgers were 1.25Kg each.
At least I beat Boris, I was about an inch away from finishing when the time ran out. I felt so bad afterwards.
